Waikiki Beach
By Lynn Lopez
Waikiki Beach is probably one of the most famous spots in all of Hawaii, and because of its popularity, you can expect a lot of people enjoying the beach at any time of the day. Nevertheless, this only adds more to Waikiki Beach’s appeal, and the sight of surfers, tourists enjoying outrigger boat rides, or simply enjoying the sun and the sand will surely lift your spirits.
Waikiki Beach is said to have been the getaway of Hawaiian royalty a long time ago, and even though these days, commercial establishments have sprouted up all over the place, the beach is still undeniably beautiful and it’s no wonder it was the retreat of choice for prominent people even a few centuries ago.
Anything goes in this popular spot for beach lovers. The brilliant turquoise waters will definitely be a strong invitation for you to take a dip, dive, snorkel, or give its waves a test-drive. Expect a lot of picnic areas here as well, so you can pack your own food while you enjoy the beach. But with the number of establishments in the area, you can simply take your pick from them and give everything a try.
During sunset on weekends, you can also enjoy a feature film projected onto a 30-foot screen. The event is aptly called ‘Sunset On The Beach’, and simply sitting back and watching a movie as the sunlight dwindles sounds like a great way to cap off your day at one of the world’s most gorgeous beaches.
Hawaii is definitely blessed with numerous idyllic locations, and although Waikiki Beach is neither as isolated nor as mellow as some of the state’s quieter areas, its beauty and the entire experience of being there really keeps it firmly at the top spot on anyone’s list of places to see in Hawaii.
