Montauk Beaches
By Lynn Lopez
Found on the south shore of Long Island, Montauk is a popular tourist destination and, as a beach resort and as the easternmost part of New York, it is also known as "The Last Resort." Montauk is particularly famous for its historical lighthouse, but something you shouldn’t miss in this place is the number of beaches it has to offer.
The beaches of Montauk are very clean and in great condition, and you will find that during the summer months, the population simply explodes due to the influx of tourists to the area. Its state parks offer plenty of beaches to visitors, but other beaches like Ditch Plains and Gin Beach are also favorites. Ditch Plains is the beach you’re looking for if you want the best waves in the area, and thus it has gained the reputation of being a great surfing spot. Gin Beach, on the other hand, offers great swimming with its warm waters and smaller waves.
Most of the beaches in Montauk are open to the public, so you wouldn’t have to pay anything to get in. The ones in the state parks, however, would charge a parking fee. If you’re on the lookout for a quiet beach haven with plenty of calming views to inspire you, then check out another side of New York and drop by Montauk.
