Lanikai Beach
By Lynn Lopez
The picture-perfect beach of Lanikai in Oahu is considered by many to be one of the best swimming beaches in Hawaii. The turquoise waters are calm and clear and the strip of sand is fine and powdery. Palm trees also line the beach, adding to its picturesque quality and providing some shade should you need refuge from the brilliant sunlight. Off shore, you also get a good view of the twin islands of Mokumanu and Mokulua.
Mind you, this beach isn’t the kind with a lot of facilities or party hangouts, and is really more suited to swimming and snorkeling. You will also find that kayaking is another great activity to do here, and the twin islands are also accessible this way. Those with a keen interest in birds will want to check out the islands, since they are both bird sanctuaries.
Lanikai is located near an upper-class residential area, so you can reach it mostly through public access paths and parking space can be hard to find. If you’re bringing a vehicle, remember not to block any driveways.
Thanks to its natural beauty, the beach is also a popular location for photo shoots, so you may notice that there are photographers and models around.
The name “Lanikai” is translated as “heavenly sea,” and when you take a look at the beach itself, you’ll see that it truly lives up to its name.
