Family Fun at the Beach
By Anna Lynn Sibal
Beach holidays with the whole family in tow are excellent ways of having fun away from home and bonding with the family. This, however, can be a trying time for parents the kids are still little. They know more antics that can test their parents’ patience other than continuously chanting: “Are we there yet?”
Thankfully, there are ways of making a beach holiday entirely fun for everyone and less stress-free for parents. With a little creativity and foresight, parents can get through this possibly trying time more smoothly.
Packing for the Beach Trip
Packing for a beach holiday can be a hassle for parents because the kids simply want to take everything with them. Parents, however, should insist on bringing just the essential items, plus swimsuits and extra change of clothes. It would be very helpful as well to pack a few pieces of clothing and store them inside the car itself in case the kids make a mess and they need to change their clothes.
Speaking of messes, parents will need a lot of tissue and baby wipes to clean up after the kids. It is better to keep them handy inside the glove compartment too. Other things that may be needed are plastic bags when they feel carsick and a first aid kit.
It is also essential that parents also pack some toys for the trip. Some toys may be used to keep the kids occupied while in the car and to play with at the beach. Parents should avoid letting the kids know what toys they are bringing because, again, they would want to put everything in it.
Children find it hard to be away from home and from everything that is familiar to them for a prolonged period of time. To help ease the anxiety, it would be helpful for parents to pack their kids’ favorite stuffed toys or a blanket.
Accommodations for the Family
To make the beach holiday comfortable for everyone, parents should make reservations in a family-oriented hotel. These hotels often have amenities such as activities for young children and babysitting services. Such amenities will keep the children occupied and at the same time allow the parents to have some time for themselves without the kids.
Other benefits of staying in a family-oriented hotel are rooms that are child-proofed, and probably cribs and playpens for rent.
Beach Fun for the Family
There are so many fun things that families can do together at the beach. Aside from swimming or snorkeling together, they can make sand angels and sandcastles. Many kids like to bury their parents or their siblings in the sand, but it would be a good idea for parents not to allow their kids to bury them both. They could also play with Frisbees and comb the beach for seashells. If the resort allows it, they could tell stories around a bonfire.
Beach holidays are great for helping parents bond with their children and have a fun time together. With some careful planning, it is possible to keep this holiday as stress-free as possible.
