Cayman Islands Caribbean Vacation
By Valerie Mellema
Located just one hour by plane from Miami, Florida; the Cayman Islands consist of three islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. The Caymans offer visitors some of the most beautiful and luxurious vacation accommodations in the Caribbean region. Known for their beautiful white sand beaches and warm tropical water, the Cayman Islands are one of the top destinations for vacations and weddings in the world.
It was not until the 1950’s that tourism began to flourish in this region, and the first scuba dive shop was opened on Grand Cayman in 1957. Since then, the islands are renowned for their excellent snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. Year-round tropical weather and crystal-clear water make for excellent visibility and ocean exploration. Today, tourism is one of the main sources of income for the islands and they receive almost one million visitors each year.
Tourists will find the best in luxury accommodations here, including beachfront resorts that offer relaxing spa packages and tropical white sandy beaches. The beaches feature powder soft sand and palm trees - here are just a few of the best beaches in the Caymans.
Seven Mile Beach
One of the most popular beaches, Seven Mile beach has anything and everything from water sports to restaurants.
Spotts Beach
Located in Spotts Newlands, Spotts Beach is a great beach where you can get away from the crowds.
Smith Cove
Located on South Sound, this beach is located near the cruise port and has public restrooms, picnic tables and showers. The snorkeling here is some of the best on the island.
Rum Point
Located on the North Side of the Islands, this beach has calm, shallow waters for safe wading for children. There are public restrooms and showers, as well as huts and hammocks. You can pick up snacks and drinks at the Rum Point beach bar.
Most resorts offer affordable luxury accommodations, although there are high-end resorts at a minimum of $500 per night. Grand Cayman offers the largest concentration of beachfront resorts, while Cayman Brac and Little Cayman are slightly less populated. Grand Cayman offers the most densely populated area with a high concentration of attractions and shops, while the other two islands offer natural preserves and less populated beaches.
