Beautiful Cannes

By Anna Lynn Sibal

If you have the money to blow and if you would like to know how it is to live like a high roller in the playgrounds of Europe even for just one day, the best place to act out this particular fantasy of yours would be none other than Cannes, the jewel of the French Riviera.

Cannes is probably the most famous town in all of the French Riviera. This is due largely to the Cannes International Film Festival, which draws the stars not just from Hollywood but from all over the world. These luminaries grace the shores of Cannes every year during May. Naturally, the crowds come to Cannes this year as well just to see and be seen with the stars.

But even if it is not the season for the Cannes International Film Festival, people still flock to Cannes all year round. They come to Cannes to enjoy the posh atmosphere, to bask on golden sand baked by the warm Mediterranean sun, and to taste for themselves the glamour and the hedonistic fun that can only happen in Cannes.

How can a visitor to Cannes kill time while stopping by the town?
There are just so many things that you can do in Cannes during your holiday. If you have the money, you will certainly have the most fun in Cannes.

The first thing that tourists do when visiting Cannes is to pay homage to its beaches. Cannes is known for its golden expanse of sand along the coast. In fact, the town of Cannes is centered on its coastline. The beaches are along the Rade de Cannes and the Golfe de la Napoule. Most of these beaches are private, meaning that you will have to shell out some cash in order for you to get in. But these private beaches are certainly more comfortable and relatively less crowded than the public beaches. At least in a private beach, you will get to have your own beach bed.

The beaches of Cannes are accessible from La Croisette, the long promenade running parallel to the coastline of the town. La Croisette is probably the most important place you need to visit when you come to Cannes, and not just because it gives access to the beaches. La Croisette is the place to see and be seen in the Cannes. You can find all kinds of people there – from the locals, to the wealthy vacationers, to the posers who want publicity for their stay in the Cannes. If you want La Croisette to yourself and to enjoy the old Belle Epoque atmosphere, take your stroll before ten in the morning.

And lastly, if you want to feel like a high roller in Cannes and you have the money to show for it, the best way to spend it is to visit the high-end boutiques and jewelry stores and the haute couture shops that line the town-side of La Croisette and the rest of the streets downtown. Buying something classy and high end, something that spells Chanel, Lacroix or Hermes, is the best souvenir you can get on your visit to Cannes.
