Beaches of Barbados
By Valerie Mellema
The island of Barbados is a jewel of a destination. Located in the Caribbean region with year-round warm weather and clear, blue water; tourists will find the vacation experience they’ve been looking for. Barbados offers a variety of activities from the romantic west coast to the lively nightlife of the south coast to the unspoiled and rugged east coast.
If you are anxious to get in the water, then you will find many prime snorkeling and diving sites around the island. Whether you choose to snorkel or scuba dive, this island is the place for memorable underwater exploration. For a true tropical vacation experience, try to visit at least a few of the many beautiful beaches of Barbados. Here are just a few of the top beaches:
Accra Beach, South Coast
This is the largest beach south coast and is popular with locals and tourists. You can rent snorkeling equipment and beach umbrellas and buy food from local vendors.
Barclays Park, Ermy Bourne Hwy
This cozy park has picnic tables and tide pools for safe water lounging. Be careful of the rough surf in this area, you’re better off sticking to the wading pool.
Bathsheba Soup Bowl, Tent Bay
This is a wild, untamed stretch along the Atlantic coast and is a terrific spot for surfing. The Independence Classic Surfing Championship is held annually here in November.
Bottom Bay, St Philip
This secluded cove requires a few steps to reach, but it's worth it. The white sandy beach feels like an idyllic hideaway surrounded by high cliffs. Be sure to pack food and drinks since there are no vendors nearby.
Brighton Beach, Bridgetown
This beach has gentle waves and a convenient location. Although it's very popular, even among locals, this long stretch of beach is a great place to go.
Most of the accommodations on Barbados are very reasonably priced; however, you can find beautiful luxury resorts that are much more expensive. Most of the hotels and resorts are located in the coastal regions, but there are plenty of private homes and villas scattered all over the island and available for rent. While resorts offer luxury accommodations, renting a home or villa is ideal for a family or group.
You can find comfortable accommodations for as little as $30 per night, while the top luxury resorts may be as much as $1000 per night. From budget to no-limits, you can find everything in between.
