By Valerie Mellema

Located just 300 miles southeast of Puerto Rico, the beaches of Antigua are one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. Benefiting from the temperate weather of the tropics, this beautiful area is said to have enough beaches for every day of the year. The pristine tropical scenery and the sugar sand beaches, make this island truly breathtaking.

All of beaches of Antigua are open to the public and you will have to do some exploring to find your favorite since there are so many to choose from. When you arrive in Antigua, you can check with your hotel concierge service for local beach maps.

Late April is an ideal time to enjoy Sailing week that runs through the first week in May. During the month of August, Antigua celebrates the famed annual Carnival event celebrating the anniversary of the island’s independence.

In addition to the nature scenes on the island, visitors will find the culture is vibrant and energetic.

The people of Antigua are friendly and eager to help you have a memorable experience. Music is also a big part of the culture here and you can find it everywhere from live bands at hotels to solo roadside musicians.

Airline tickets are usually less expensive during the off-season, but some hotels and resorts use the off-season to close temporarily to perform repairs and renovations. Visitors on a budget can find simple accommodations for around $50 per night, while there are very nice resorts available anywhere from $400 to $700 per night. There are also luxury spa resorts for $1000 per night. You can also find private homes and cottages to rent from $200 to $5000 per night.
